How much of our Kenyan history do we know? Have we taken time to study our ‘shujaas’ across the diverse communities in our country?
How accurate is our knowledge of Kenyan heroes from the pre- independence era? What can we learn from the prominent personalities of that time?
Mashujaa Project is a visual narrative of ‘shujaas’ (heroes) from across Kenya, exhibiting dozens of re-imagined chiefs, warriors, prophets, heroes and heroines of Kenya. Mashujaa is a discussion, a dialogue, a discourse on a little known but critical section of our history as a country before we became a Jamhuri AGAIN.
As Photomagic Studio we are proud to be associated with Mashujaa Project and Photokenya. 70% of the images in this project were shot at our studio in Nairobi-Kenya. And the core team in the project are alumni from our school- Photokenya Learning (formerly Photomagic School of Photography)!
Below are some of the images from the launch of the exhibition recently at Alliance Francais de Nairobi.
